WHAT IS THE PILATES METHOD ?
The Pilates Method is a whole-body movement method aimed at strengthening weak muscles and stretching shortened muscles. The result is better balance, reflected in a strong, supple body with streamlined muscles, better posture and greater body awareness. The foundation is the deep abdominal muscles, back muscles, gluteal muscles and inner thighs, also known as the Powerhouse or centre of strength. Every movement begins by activating the Powerhouse.
Moving from this centre of the body with concentration, precision and control helps develop a balance between body and mind. Performing the exercises in flow, or fluid movement, ensures a good flow of energy through the body and makes it a workout. Breathing plays an important role throughout. Coordinating the exercises with breathing leads to greater concentration, intensifies the exercises and increases lung capacity.
The exercises are performed lying down, standing and sitting on the Mat or on one of the other pieces of Pilates apparatus, depending on the client's needs.
The Pilates Method is an effective and safe method accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or physical condition. Whether you want to improve your sporting performance or are recovering from an injury, surgery or pregnancy, anyone who wants to care for their body consciously, bring their muscles into balance or improve their posture can benefit from Pilates. Consistent use of the method will soon be noticeable in your daily life, including walking and sitting more upright, better sleep, better mental and physical balance and an overall sense of well-being. Pilates is also gaining popularity among men, which is hardly surprising when you know that the Pilates Method was developed by a man!
Pilates is also increasingly recognised by doctors, physiotherapists and manual therapists, as a support alongside conventional treatment or after treatment has ended. We therefore place great importance on working with various physiotherapists.
